The story behind the name

The name Bigwood is rooted in family, legacy, and — if we’re being honest — a little bit of barstool humor.

Glen Wood, co-founder and head brewer, comes from a long line of men who made their living from the forest. His grandfather was a logger. His father worked in forestry. And Glen himself spent over a decade in the timber industry. The nickname “Woody” has been proudly passed down through generations, and Glen carries the title “Woody IV” — even tattooed on his skin. He’s a tall guy with a big presence, just like the towering trees that his family has long worked among.

Haley Wood grew up with the smell of sawdust in the air. Her dad worked in sawmills and lumberyards, and that scent still brings back memories of him coming home after a day’s work. That connection to wood — to the labor, the life, and the love that came with it — became part of her story, too.

When Glen and Haley started a business together, it only felt right to honor that legacy. But if we’re being real, “Bigwood” started as a joke — a late-night, beer-fueled conversation between friends that wasn’t taken too seriously. It stuck because it made people laugh, and then it stuck even more because it meant something deeper.

“Bigwood” is a wink and a nod to the humor that built this place, but it’s also a tribute to generations of hard work, tall trees, and the family name they share.
